BOISE STATE OFFERS EARTH WEEK ACTIVITIES APRIL
22-25
Boise State University Volunteer Services Board is
sponsoring Earth Week 2003, an environmental and conservation awareness event,
April 22-25. Festivities run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each day with local agencies
promoting environmental issues through informational displays set up on the Quad
at the center of the Boise State campus.
Rocky Barker will be the keynote speaker at noon Tuesday,
April 22, in the Student Union Lookout Room. He
will speak on “The Road from Earth Day and Beyond.” Barker is the author of Saving
All the Parts: Reconciling Economics and the Endangered Species Act and is a
visiting fellow for the Andrus Center for Public Policy housed at Boise State.
He is on sabbatical leave from The Idaho Statesman where he is an
environmental writer. The National Wildlife Federation awarded Barker the
National Conservation Achievement Award in 1999.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Tuesday: An informational
display on the Quad, including the Idaho Conservation League and the
Environmental Protection Agency. There will also be a planting activity with the
Volunteer Services Board and Boise State Landscape Services, and an
environmental video.
Wednesday: An informational
display on the Quad, including the Sierra Club, Peregrine Fund and U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service.
Thursday: An informational
display on the Quad, including Planned Parenthood, BFI, Idaho Power and Boise
Urban Stages.
Friday: An informational
display on the Quad, including the Sierra Club, Student Conservation
Association, City of Boise Public Works, Idaho Rivers United and the Bureau of
Land Management.
Organizers see the weeks’ events as a way to educate the
community about the environment, so that all may be better stewards. For more
