SPRING FLING CELEBRATES 25TH YEAR WITH MUSIC AND
GAMES
Roving minstrels, a glass-eating comedian, rockin’
musicians and more will help celebrate Boise State University’s 25th Annual
Spring Fling from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Gene Harris Bandshell in
Julia Davis Park. This event is presented by Student Programs Board (SPB). This
year’s festival boasts a tropical theme, which Skylar Christensen, Special
Events Coordinator for SPB, describes as "a Jimmy Buffet concert without
Jimmy Buffet." Spring Fling is this year’s first large-scale park
festival in Boise.
Two stages will host eight bands almost non-stop beginning
at 11 a.m. Bands featured are Boise Central Library, Organech, Helio Sequence,
Crash 4, Floater, Danger Baby, Warsaw and Frame of Mind. Headliner Built to
Spill will perform at 7:30 p.m. Comedian Todd Robins will emcee the event and
will also perform a short comedy routine at 7 p.m. Robins is known for his
ability to eat glass, pound nails into his head and stick wires in his eyes.
In addition to music and comedy, the festival will feature
activities for all ages. Kids and adults can play on the slip and slide, beat on
their friends in the inflatable monster boxing ring, get their faces painted,
make spin art, hang out in the techno tent or play on inflatable games, among
other activities. Christensen says, "We want this year’s event to have a
party/festival atmosphere with lots of crowd participation." More than 20
retail, food and information booths will be vending at the event also.
Admission to Boise State’s Spring Fling is free. For
