The Boise State University
student chapter of the Human Resource Association (HRA) has
been honored with a Superior Merit Award from the Society for
Human Resource Management. The award places the Boise State
chapter among the top 15 percent in the country based on
all-around activities of the association.
The HRA team of Adam Scheerer,
Paul Cheney and Sara McClarin will compete in the Human
Resource Collegiate National Championships in Orlando, Fla.,
in June. Teams representing six regions of the United States
will compete in a Jeopardy-style competition associated with
human resource management.
McClarin recently won an
internal Boise State competition to be on the team, replacing
Telma Delec who helped Boise State win the regional HR
championship that allows Boise State to compete in the
national championships for the first time.
Boise State went undefeated and
took first place in the Northwest Regional Human Resources
Collegiate Competition at Microsoft Corp. in Redmond, Wash.,
April 5. Boise State defeated 13 other teams.
The Human Resource Collegiate
Competition is in its fourth year. The competition encourages
undergraduate students to prepare for professional human
resource certification. Students who pass the certification
exam may eventually receive the Professional in Human
Resources (PHR) designation. Boise State had placed second and
third in each of the preceding two years in the regionals.
This year's team coaches
include Christine Simon, Human Resource Association of
Treasure Valley (HRATV) student chapter liaison, and Gundars
Kaupins, faculty adviser to the Human Resource Association (HRA)
student chapter at Boise State.
