A
new book by historian Carol MacGregor presents a colorful story
for young people that explains the importance of the horse to
Native Americans. Published by Caxton Press, Shoshoni Pony
(hardcover, 32 pages in full color, $15.95) also explores how
the Shoshoni tribe helped Lewis and Clark in their journey
across the continent.
Vivid color artwork by Dick Lee
illustrates many aspects of Indian life and the tribe’s
meeting with members of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
MacGregor, an Idaho native, has
owned, trained and loved horses all her life. She serves as an
adjunct professor of history at Boise State University and
lectures on the American West for the Idaho Humanities Council
speakers bureau. Lee has taught courses in illustration at
Montgomery College in Rockville, Md., and cartooning at Boise
State University. His artwork has appeared in such publications
as the Washington Post and National Geographic
Magazine.
