Beginning Monday, May 19, Boise State
University will move to a four-day academic schedule and will
close most of its buildings on Friday afternoons to conserve
energy and reduce cooling expenses through the summer.
By not offering classes on Fridays, reducing
building operation hours and incorporating similar energy
conservation efforts, Boise State saved $67,000 in summer
2002.
Class times will be lengthened to
accommodate for the shorter week. Employees will continue to
work a 40-hour week by extending their work day one hour on
Mondays through Thursdays and working four hours on Fridays.
Most university business offices will close
at 11:30 a.m. on Fridays through Aug. 15. Auxiliary units such
as the Student Union and The Pavilion are exempt from the
reduced hours because they generate revenue from off-campus
clients who use the facilities.
