Five Top Students Receive Brown 
Honors Scholarships to Boise State

Five high school graduating seniors from Idaho, Montana and Alaska have been awarded Brown Honors Scholarships at Boise State University, worth up to $14,000 a year.

The premier academic scholarship for incoming freshmen, the Brown Honors Scholarship includes full fees plus room and board in Boise State’s Honors residence hall and is renewable for three consecutive years. Recipients are selected based on standardized test scores, high school grades, class rank and extracurricular activities. For the past five years, scholarship recipients have been among the top 2 percent of their respective classes.

The 2003 recipients include:

— Kersti Harter, Boise. Harter graduated from Centennial High School and plans to major in anthropology at Boise State. She is the daughter of Reid and Portia Harter of Boise.

— Cayley Hachtel, Nampa. Hachtel graduated from Vallivue High School in Caldwell and plans to major in marketing. She is the daughter of Richard and Connie Hachtel of Nampa.

— Joshua Bovey, Craigmont. Bovey graduated from Highland High School and plans to major in electrical engineering. He is the son of Brad and Nancy Bovey of Craigmont.

— Matthew Mayer, Kenai, Alaska. Mayer graduated from Kenai Central High School. He is the son of Kenneth and Catherine Mayer of Kenai.

— Katie Mabbott, Whitehall, Mont. Mabbott graduated from Whitehall High School and plans to major in biology. She is the daughter of Brent and Sandra Mabbott of Whitehall.

The Honors College at Boise State University offers talented, highly motivated students the personalized attention of a small liberal arts school while drawing upon the resources of a large metropolitan university. Open to majors from all academic disciplines, the college offers small classes built around collaborative learning. The director of the Honors College is Greg Raymond, an internationally known expert in world politics and the 1994 Idaho Professor of the Year.
