Multicultural Summer Camp Focuses on Peace Issues

It’s still not too late to register for Peace Village 2003, a weeklong summer camp for ages 8-13 that features yoga, hiking, ecology, storytelling, creative arts and other activities aimed at helping young people create lives of peace in today’s world.

The multicultural, interfaith camp runs 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m June 23-27 and costs $40, with scholarships available.  Deadline for registration is June 18.  The camp is presented by First Congregational United Church of Christ, Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel, Boise Baha’i Community, Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship and the Idaho Peace Coalition, along with support from Pax World Fund Family, Hewlett Packard, the Boise Co-op and others.

Boise State University communication professor Peter Wollheim and adjunct sociology professor Angie Blain are among those who will teach segments during Peace Village. Camp members will study the lives of peacemakers and learn to be peacemakers themselves.  They will participate in nature studies that incorporate Native American values, practice yoga and meditation, learn about diversity through songs, dances and presentations from cultural groups, and undertake creative art projects.

For more information about the camp or to register, call 344-5731.
