invited to join in for free activities ranging
from concerts to comedians
An evening with comedian Bernie McGrenahan, “Bruce Almighty” on an outdoor
screen, a pancake feed and a barbecue are just a few of the events planned at
Boise State University to kick off the new school year. From Aug. 22-30,
students and members of the public are invited to join in the following
festivities. All events are free unless otherwise noted.
Friday, Aug. 22 — Move-in Madness. Free concert and movie 8 p.m. in
the Centennial Amphitheatre, behind the Communication Building along the river.
Jim Carey stars in “Bruce Almighty,” about an unhappy TV news
correspondent who is given the chance to take over God’s job. The film is rated
PG-13. Popcorn and soda will be available for $1.50.
Monday, Aug. 25 — “Women Rock,” music on the Student Union patio from
11 a.m.-2 p.m. Also, the Student Programs Board will sponsor a free film in the
Special Events Center at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 26 — Comedian Bernie McGrenahan uses humor to look at
the very real issues of alcohol on college campuses at 7 p.m. on the Student
Union patio. McGrenahan lost his brother to high-risk drinking and fought his
own battle with alcohol before becoming clean and sober. Also on Tuesday, those
with Boise State ID are invited to bowl or shoot billiards at the Games Center
for $1 per game, or enjoy free games from 4-5 p.m. From 4-7 p.m., community
members are welcome to join students from the residence halls for a barbecue on
the Student Union patio. Cost is $6.50 or a student meal plan card.
Wednesday, Aug. 27 — The Student Services Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in
the Student Union will highlight clubs, programs and other services aimed at
students.
Thursday, Aug. 28 — Idaho country musician Billy Braun will play from
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Student Union patio. Various activities that day will
highlight recreation options including intramurals and Student Recreation Center
and Outdoor Programs classes, workshops and excursions. Students will have
access to free inline skate rentals, Outdoor Programs will demonstrate Dutch
oven cooking and people are invited to bring their bikes for a free bike
maintenance clinic.
Friday, Aug. 29 — The Student Alumni Association hosts SAA Pride Day,
with activities on the Quad from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and a pancake feed and concert
from 7:30-11 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 30 — Welcome Week wraps up with Single Parents Club
bowling from 11 a.m-1 p.m. in the Games Center and a free University Welcome
barbecue for campus and community from noon-4 p.m. on the Student Union patio.
