Sixteen Boise State Talkin' Broncos Named to All Conference Teams

Sixteen members of the Boise State University debate and speech team were named to the 2002-2003 Division I All-Conference team announced by the Northwest Forensic Conference this week.

Senior team captain Ken Rock (senior, Coeur dAlene) was an All-Conference First Team selection for the third consecutive season. Rock is also a 2003 Pi Kappa Delta All-American. A political science major and the out-going student body vice president, Rock will study abroad before graduating in May.

Kristen Davidson (sophomore, Boise) was also a First Team selection. Davidson was All-NFC honorable mention as a freshman. She will return to the team in Spring 2004 after a semester in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Boise State landed nine students on the All-Conference Second Team:

  • Nancy Henke (Boise), a junior English major, received All-NFC honors for the second consecutive season.
  • Ali Ishaq (junior, Boise) made the all-conference team in his first season of collegiate competition. He currently serves as Boise State's student body president and is majoring in international relations.
  • Blake Lingle (senior, Boise) graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in economics.  Recipient of All-NFC honorable mention honors in 2002-03, he is currently employed by the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C.
  • Liz McDonagh (freshman, Boise) was named to the second team in her first season of competition, the highest honor for which first-year competitors are eligible.
  • Annah Merkley (Pocatello) is a sophomore majoring in political science.
  • Lacey Rammell-OBrien (Eagle) is a sophomore majoring in communication and English.
  • Nicki Napier (Idaho Falls) is a sophomore cultural anthropology major. She will attend the University of Utah next year as a participant in the National Student Exchange Program.
  • Nate Schunke (Boise) is a junior majoring in Human Resource Management.
  • Rachel Webb (Twin Falls) was named to the All-NFC Division III team in 2000-2001 as a freshman at the College of Southern Idaho. She is a junior majoring in communication.

Receiving All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition were:

  • Patrick Connor (Boise), a senior communication education major.
  • Brienna Carico (Caldwell), a freshman communication major.
  • Greg Sasser (Salem, Ore.) a senior communication education major.
  • Katherine Pate (Ketchum) a senior communication education major.
  • Tandy Reyes (Boise) a senior communication education major.

Boise State is the only Idaho college that competes at the Division I level in the Northwest Forensic Conference, an affiliation of 42 two- and four-year institutions of higher education in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. Albertson College, BYU-Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College and Northwest Nazarene University compete in Division II, while the College of Southern Idaho is a Division III school.

The Talkin Broncos 16 All-NFC selections are the most Boise State has received in the schools 20-year affiliation with the conference, and more than any other Division I institution.   Nine of Boise States 16 All-NFC award recipients Davidson, Henke, Ishaq, Merkley, Rammell-OBrien, Schunke, Carico, Pate and Webb will return for the 2003-04 season, which begins in late September at the College of Southern Idahos Golden Eagle Invitational.
