Boise State to Break Ground on West Campus Academic Building

Boise State University will break ground on the first academic building on the new Boise State-West campus in Nampa on Tuesday, Aug. 12. The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. on the 150-acre campus north of the Idaho Center off Can-Ada Road. Boise State President Bob Kustra and Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne will be the featured speakers.

Until additional academic buildings are constructed on the West campus, the 65,600-square-foot academic building will house classroom instruction, science laboratory instruction, student services, a library, a bookstore and more.
The building will include: a lecture hall; 14 classrooms (including a computer classroom); two distance learning classrooms; three teaching laboratories; lab prep rooms for biology, chemistry and physics; a general computer lab; a branch library; faculty offices; limited administrative offices; two conference rooms; five student services offices, a self-service center, a branch bookstore and study lounges.  The anticipated completion date is December 2004.

The new campus is being designed to meet the needs of a growing number of students in Canyon County and beyond. The existing Canyon County Center on Caldwell Boulevard in Nampa was established in 1985. It offers academic, applied technical, workforce training, adult basic education and non-credit classes. Support services include advising, admission, registration, placement testing, financial aid and a bookstore.
