BOISE STATE ANNOUNCES CONTEST FOR LITERARY ANTHOLOGY ‘IDAHO REVIEW’

Boise State University is accepting admissions for The Idaho Review 2004 Editor’s Prize for short stories up to 9,000 words. The winning entry will receive a $1,000 prize plus publication in the literary anthology The Idaho Review. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 1; entries must include a $15 entry fee. The entry fee is non-refundable and entries will not be returned. Participants should include a self-addressed stamped envelope for early contest results.

Send entries to: The Idaho Review, Mitch Wieland, editor, Boise State University, Department of English, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID 83725.

All entries will also be considered for publication in The Idaho Review. The award-winning literary journal receives more than 1,000 unsolicited manuscripts each year, from which six or seven are usually chosen for publication. There is no entry fee for unsolicited submissions; however, these will not be considered for the Editor’s Prize. The Idaho Review pays $100 for regular submissions chosen for publication.

The Idaho Review, an annual collection of fiction and poetry published by Boise State’s creative writing program, has had two short stories from its current edition selected for reprint in the 2003 edition of Prize Stories: The O.Henry Awards, available from Anchor Books in the fall. In addition, a story from The Idaho Review was reprinted in The 2002 Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses, another of the major national prize anthologies. The journal has also had three stories listed in the top 100 stories in The Best American Short Stories 1999, and three stories have earned “Special Mention” in the 2001 and 2003 editions of The Pushcart Prize. Most of the stories

and poems from the first four issues have gone on to appear in novels and collections by major New York publishers.

The current issue of The Idaho Review is available at Barnes and Noble, Borders, the Boise State Bookstore, or by calling 1-800-992-8398, Ext. 1362. For more information, contact editor Mitch Wieland at (208) 426-1002.
