Boise State Announces Welcome Week '03 Events

BOISE STATE INVITES CAMPUS TO RECREATION DAY AUG. 28

Thursday, Aug. 28 will be a day filled with recreational activities and information on Boise State University recreation outlets as part of the campus’ Welcome Week activities.
The Student Recreation Center will offer self-guided tours throughout the day.  For a more in-depth tour of the facilities, “Talkie-Tours” led by facility managers will leave from the lobby at 11:30 a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m. Tables will be set up in the lobby of the Rec Center offering information on fitness programs, intramural and club sports, the Outdoor Program, health, wellness, and counseling services, and more.
Shortened fitness classes taught by Rec Center fitness instructors will be offered in the afternoon on the Rec Center Patio. Kickboxing class will be at 3:30 p.m. and Hip Hop will be at 4:30 p.m. Hip Hop is a new Rec Center class beginning this fall.
A sample fitness testing station will be set up in the Rec Center from 4-9 p.m. Personal trainers will be on hand to administer flexibility and balance tests and give out information on target and training heart rates. They will also be able to answer questions regarding fitness assessments and personal training.
The Outdoor Program will sponsor several afternoon activities. Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations will be held on the north patio of the Student Union Building from 11 a.m.-1 p.m with additional information available on Outdoor rentals and trips. Between 1 and 7 p.m., students with a Boise State ID card can rent free inline skates from the Outdoor Program rental shop located in the Rec Center. Also, a free bike maintenance clinic will be held on the Student Union Patio from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Members of the campus community can bring their bikes and learn how to do a simple tune-up. This program will be offered once a week throughout the fall.
Information on club sports will be available along the sidewalk between the recreation field and the Student Union Building parking lot. Additionally, basketball toss and golf putting competitions will be set up.

PRIDE DAY ACTIVITIES OFFER FOOD, GAMES, FUN FOR WELCOME WEEK

Boise State Welcome Week features School Pride Day, Friday, Aug. 29, sponsored by the Student Alumni Association. A full day of events will occur on the Quad.
From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., activities include a football kicking contest, football highlights, face painting and a dunk tank where opposing team mascots will be dunked. There will also be giveaways for successful dunking and for wearing orange and blue and showing school spirit. Students should also look for Homecoming specials. This will be the first opportunity to buy David Spade Live tickets at a discounted price.
The Short Stack Shindig runs from 7:30-11 p.m. that same day. There will be free pancakes and Bronco Volleyball. The Student Alumni Association will have giveaways for wearing orange and blue, singing the fight song, and knowing important Boise State trivia. Live local bands will perform starting at 9 p.m. David Spade Live ticket specials will be available at this event as well.
School Pride Day aims to celebrate school spirit, welcoming new students and telling them what it means to be a Bronco, and highlighting other Boise State traditions such as Homecoming, Bronco Blitz, Spring Fling, and The Arbiter.
