Boise State University Hosts Poetry Slam Sept. 12

A Poetry Slam at Boise State University will feature original poetry and other forms of the spoken word. Poets can register for free at the door to compete in a slam style poetry “by the rules” contest that will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the Special Events Center in the Boise State Student Union. Students, faculty, staff and community members are all invited to present poems, but only Boise State students are eligible to win cash prizes. Contestants will be allowed one to three minutes to present a piece of original spoken words. The top three student poets win cash prizes; $100 first place, $75 second place and $50 third place. Five people will be chosen randomly from the audience to adjudicate the event, scoring each poem on a 0.1-10.0 scale. Admission to the event is free. Poetry Slam is sponsored by Boise State Student Activities.
