Tom Trusky, a Boise State
University English professor and director of the university-based Idaho Center
for the Book, will present a workshop on James Castle’s Icehouse Books at 10:45
a.m. Friday, Sept. 5. The workshop is part of the Idaho Commission on the Arts
statewide conference “Art Matters 2: Childhood, Livelihood, Neighborhood.”
Register online at www2.state.id.us./arts/.
Cost for the two-day conference is $100.
James Castle created thousands
of books in his lifetime, but the rarest and most intriguing are his Icehouse
Books. Reportedly found in an icehouse in Garden Valley, the volumes have
survived decay, demolition and indifference. Trusky has spent a decade studying
the Icehouse Books and will unravel their story and translate their mysterious
message in this slide-lecture presentation.
