State Students Excel In International Entrepreneurship Competition
Boise State University student
Ryan Edwards of Boise placed second in international competition in
entrepreneurship at the 2003 Delta Epsilon Chi International Career Development
Conference recently in Orlando, Fla. Edwards received $500 from the Ewing Marion
Kauffman Foundation for his second-place finish.
Another Boise State student, Crystal Roundy of Boise, placed in the top 10 for
her performance in retail management. The students qualified to compete in their
events, along with hundreds of competitors from the United States and Canada, by
winning in state competition earlier this year. Fourteen marketing management
technology students and their faculty adviser, Starla Haislip, a marketing
management instructor in the Selland College of Applied Technology, attended the
competition.
Delta Epsilon Chis renowned Competitive Events Program uses interviews, tests,
role-plays and written project reports to evaluate the students marketing and
management skills. Delta Epsilon Chi is a college division of DECA with 12,000
members across the United States and in Canada. Its programs of activity are
integrated in college marketing education and business programs to help teach
the skills and standards required in business today. Delta Epsilon Chi members
participating in the Competitive Events Program choose their event from those
offered in nearly 20 career areas. Business professionals judge the events.
