Boise State TECenter Celebrates Opening With Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the formal opening of the Boise State University Technology and Entrepreneurial Center Friday on the Boise State-West campus in Nampa.

The 38,000-square-foot TECenter is the first facility completed on the campus.

U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, Boise State President Bob Kustra and Nampa Mayor Tom Dale were featured speakers.

The Boise State TECenter is the valley’s first technology incubator that helps start-ups and early stage technology companies. It offers clients real-time business assistance, development resources, common use areas and equipment, shared support services, affordable and flexible resident space and access to potential funding sources.

The TECenter has been working with potential clients for the last six months. More than 25 of them have been introduced to the center’s commercialization process. Ten companies are actively engaged in developmental work plans.
Three incoming resident clients shared their development plans at the Friday event. They included:

- Brian Ernesto, President of the Tiburon Corporation.  Tiburon is a software development firm that has created web site development tools for realtors and real estate brokerage firms. The TECenter will provide the ultimate bandwidth for Tiburon applications.

- Tony Dupont, I.O. Dupont LLC.  I.O. Dupont is developing proprietary technology for brake and shifter cabling applications. Prototype manufacturing will be done at the TECenter.

   - Rodney Rohm, Rohm University LLC. Rohm University brings a unique and innovative approach for computer and business education.  Training courses are being developed for offerings this fall at the TECenter.

The TECenter is operated by the Idaho Business and Economic Development Center at Boise State. The university-based organization offers a wealth of low-cost information designed to educate and support Idaho technology businesses and entrepreneurs.  The Idaho Small Business Development center will also have counselors located at the center to provide consulting for small business owners.
