Boise
State Celebrates Latino Heritage Month With Slate Of Events

The community is invited to
celebrate Latino culture with a variety of events of Boise State University,
including a mini fiesta, book discussions and musical entertainment. All events
are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. For more information,
call 426-4259.
* Sept. 9 – Double O Riders, Student Union North Patio, noon-1 p.m. This hip-hop
duo is from Eastern Oregon and has been together for 2 1/2 years.
* Sept. 11 – Group discussion: “What do I call myself – Latino, Hispanic,
Mexican, Chicano?” Barnwell Room, 3-5 p.m.
* Sept.16 – Independence Day Mini Fiesta with Mariachi Acapulco del Sol, Student
Union North Patio, noon-2 p.m.
* Sept. 18 – Crystal Martinez, Student Union Patio, noon-1 p.m. Traditional
Mexican singer Crystal Martinez is from Eastern Oregon and has been singing
since the age of 9. She has performed for many local and national events,
including an appearance on “Siempre en Domingo” on Univison, the leading Spanish
language media company. She has performed for local and national cinco de mayo
festivals as well as for a Tejano Award show. Crystal will be selling her CD at
the performance.
* Sept. 25 – Book discussion: Latinos in Idaho with Bob McCarl, Student Union
Lookout Room, 1-4 p.m.
* Sept. 27 – “Soy Unica" Latino Girl Scout Conference, Student Union Building,
10 a.m. - 3 p.m. There is a $10 fee for girls who participate. Women are
still needed to volunteer as group leaders.
* Oct. 4 – Book discussion: Narco with Ev Torres, Student Union Lookout Room,
4-8 p.m.
