Galing Galing, a Filipino dinner and dance festival, comes to
Boise State University 7-11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the Hatch
Ballroom on the second floor of the Student Union. Parking will be
free in the Student Union visitors lot.
Galing Galing, meaning very good in Filipino, is a casual
celebration of Filipino culture. The event will include an
auction, raffle, door prizes and surprises. The evenings menu
includes food as prepared in Filipino homes, including lumpia,
adobo, pancit, steamed and fried rice, and buko salad.
Guest speaker Shelton Woods, professor of Asian history at
Boise State, will speak on the Filipino American experience. Also,
Kevin Nadal will perform his award winning one-man show Pinoy.
Pinoy covers issues that Filipino Americans face each day, such as
identity, cultural awareness, family relations and self-esteem.
Nadal employs comedy, music, drama and dance in his performance to
create a passionate and personal show about the history and
struggles of this group of people.
Spectrum Entertainment will supply music for a social dance after
the performances.
The event is sponsored by the Filipino American Student
Organization, whose goals are to share Filipino traditions and
heritage, integrate Filipino and American cultures and promote
education and professional development of Filipino Americans. It
is co-sponsored by the Boise State University Cultural Center.
Tickets are available through Select-a-Seat, general admission
