Boise State Shouts "Orange You Proud You're A Bronco!"

Boise State University celebrates its colors during Homecoming Week Oct. 6-10 with the theme “Orange You Proud You’re a Bronco!” This year’s Homecoming Week activities feature a performance from comedian David Spade and a downtown street festival among a week’s worth of other school pride events as well as giveaways on The Quad. Fitting with the Homecoming theme, all the giveaways will be orange! All events are free unless otherwise specified and everyone is welcome to participate. Here is the activities schedule for the week:

Monday, Oct. 6

* “Toilet Bowl” flag football tournament. Bronco Stadium. 4-10 p.m. Student, alumni and staff teams compete to have their team name engraved on the ceremonial toilet. Presented by Campus Recreation. Call 426-1131.

* “Tommy Boy” (PG-13; comedy; Chris Farley and David Spade; 1995). After Tommy barely graduates from college he returns home where he begins working for his father, the owner of an auto parts factory. His father soon dies, however, leaving the fate of the company in the hands of Tommy’s questionable intelligence. Presented by Student Programs Board. Call 426-1223.

Oct. 8-11

* Boise State University’s theater arts department opens its 2003-04 season with Samuel Beckett’s absurdist play “Endgame.” Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2-4 and 8-11 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 and 12 at the Morrison Center Stage II. Tickets are $9 general and $7 for students and seniors at Select-a-Seat. Boise State students, faculty and staff can receive free tickets at campus box offices.

Thursday, Oct. 9

* Michael Cunningham, who won the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award for The Hours, will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Student Union Jordan as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series. Cunningham’s lecture, “Wrestling With a Genius: My Life and Virginia Woolf’s,” is free and the public is invited.
* David Spade Live! The Pavillion. 8 p.m. $10 and $29 through Select-a-Seat. Known from television shows “Saturday Night Live” and “Just Shoot Me” and movies “Tommy Boy” and “Joe Dirt,” David Spade comes to Boise to perform his stand-up comedy act as part of Homecoming festivities.

Friday, Oct. 10

* Homecoming Street Festival. Basque Block on Grove Street between 6th and Capitol. 5-10 p.m. The Rocci Johnson band will perform from 5-7 p.m. and Da Groove will perform from 8-10 p.m. There will also be games, prizes and a bounce house for children. Presented by Student Programs Board.

The Alumni Association will recognize the “Golden Grads,” the class of 1953. A new addition to this year’s Homecoming festivities will be an alumni reunion for each college. The campus newspaper, The Arbiter, celebrates its 70-year anniversary this year and will hold a reunion of alums who worked on the paper. The popular percussion artists Rhythm Dogs will perform at 4:30 p.m. Participants can also enjoy Bronco prizes, music from KISSIN 92, face painting and a visit from Buster Bronco and the Boise State cheerleaders. Bronco Shop merchandise will be for sale, and orange attire is encouraged. Presented by Boise State Alumni Association. Call 426-1698.

* Homecoming Football Game. Bronco Stadium. 6:05 p.m. Boise State Broncos vs. Tulsa Hurricanes. The halftime show will feature a performance from the Boise State Keith Stein
