The
Boise State University College of Social Sciences and Public
Affairs honored the following local recipients of scholarships and
awards for the 2003-04 academic year.
Mallory Atkinson, daughter of Ellie and Frank Atkinson
of Boise, has received a scholarship from the political science
department at Boise State University. Atkinson is a sophomore
majoring in political science and works part time at the Boise
School District Administration Office. Atkinson is a 2001 graduate
of Capital High School.
Lejla Becirovic-Shull, daughter of Ibrahim and Nafa
Becirovic of Twin Falls, has received the Keith Gramann Memorial
Scholarship. Becirovic-Shull is a senior at Boise State University
majoring in social work and is a member of Golden Key
International Honor Society.
Jennifer Blanchard, daughter of Judy Frederick of Boise
and Bruce Winn of Boise, has received a scholarship from the Boise
State University School of Social Work. Blanchard, a graduate
student in the social work program, is a 1987 graduate of Capital
High School.
Clay Cox, son of Marvin and Sharon Cox of Boise, has
received a scholarship through the communication department at
Boise State University. Cox is a sophomore majoring in
communications and has also received the President’s Essay Award.
Cox is a 1981 graduate of Meridian High School.
Hannelore Ferber, daughter of Fred and Quelta Ferber of
Boise, has received a scholarship from the political science
department at Boise State University. Ferber is a junior majoring
in political science and works as a Spanish and German tutor and
an elementary Spanish teacher. Ferber is a 2001 graduate of Borah
High School.
Erik Heidemann of Twin Falls has received a scholarship
through the public policy and administration department at Boise
State University. Heidemann also received the Carl Burke
Scholarship in 2002 and a political science scholarship in 2001.
Heidemann, a graduate student in public administration, is a 1996
graduate of Twin Falls Senior High School.
Amanda Hoffman, daughter of Ivan and
Lou Ann Hoffman of Meridian, has received the Carl P. Burke
Endowed Scholarship in Public Policy. Hoffman, a graduate student
in public administration at Boise State University, is a 1996
graduate of Eagle High School.
Lu Anne Hormel of Boise has received a scholarship from
the social work department at Boise State University. Hormel is a
graduate student in the social work program.
Stephen Hunt, son of Stephen and Nancy Hunt of Boise,
has received a scholarship through the history department at Boise
State University. Hunt is a senior majoring in history and German,
and was on the Dean’s List in 1997 and 2000-02, and has served
internships with the Black History Museum, the library and Valley
ride. Hunt is a graduate of Meridian High School.
Iris Hunter of Boise has received a scholarship from the
School of Social Work at Boise State University. Hunter is a
graduate student in the social work program.
Ali Ishaq, son of Sohail and Farha Ishaq, has received a
scholarship from the political science department at Boise State
University. Ishaq is a senior majoring in international relations
and received the 2003 HP Diversity and Leadership in Human Rights
Award and Scholarship and is the current ASBSU president. Ishaq is
a 2000 graduate of Centennial High School.
Reggie Melbrough of Boise has received a scholarship
through the history department at Boise State University.
Melbrough, a junior majoring in secondary education history, is a
2001 graduate of Timberline High School.
Kate Neal, daughter of Angie and Pat Neal of Moscow, has
received a scholarship from the political science department at
Boise State University. Neal, a freshman majoring in political
science, served as the Girls’ State Lieutenant Governor in 2002
and the Girls’ National Representative for Idaho in 2002. Neal is
a 2003 graduate of Capital High School.
Carole Nemnich, daughter of Don and Betty Rayborn of
Boise, has received a scholarship from the public policy and
administration department at Boise State University. Hoffman, a
graduate student in public administration, is a 1975 graduate of
Capital High School.
Gary Raney of Boise has received the Graduate Academic
Excellence Award from the Boise State University criminal justice
department. Raney, a graduate student in criminal justice, is a
1980 graduate of Caldwell High School and currently works for the
Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
Dawn Rider of Caldwell has received a scholarship from
the School of Social Work at Boise State University. Rider is a
senior majoring in social work.
Sergio Soto, son of Abel and Efigenia Soto of Nampa, has
received the FBI Scholarship through Boise State University. Soto
is a senior studying criminal justice administration.
Duke Staggs, son of Ken Staggs and Jo Ann Edmiston, both
of Coeur d’Alene, has received the Merle Wells Public History
Award. Staggs is a graduate student in history and has also
received the Bensell Memorial Scholarship through the Siletz
Tribe. Staggs is a 1988 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.
Angela Sterk, daughter of David and Debra Shultz of
Caldwell, has received a scholarship from the Boise State
University sociology department and the Dr. Martin Scheffer
Scholarship. Sterk, a senior sociology major, is a 2000 graduate
of Vallivue High School.
Julie Swanson, daughter of Jerry and Jill Lister of
Boise, has received a scholarship from the public policy and
administration department at Boise State University. Swanson, a
graduate student in public administration, is a graduate of Borah
High School.
JoAnn Wandell of Nampa has received a scholarship
through the public policy and administration department at Boise
State University. Wandell, a graduate student in public policy and
administration, is a 1987 graduate of Porterville High School in
California.
Adriane Wright, daughter of Ron and Brenda Wright of
Boise, has received a scholarship from the School of Social Work
at Boise State University. Wright, a sophomore majoring in social
work, is a 2001 graduate of Centennial High School.
Darryl Wright, son of Chuck Wright of Mill Creek, Wash.,
and Elaine Spalding of Duvall,Wash. has received a scholarship
through the public policy and administration department at Boise
State University. Wright is a graduate student in public policy
and administration, played basketball at Boise State from 1989-91,
served as ASBSU vice president from 1994-96, and is a first
lieutenant in the US Army. Wright is a 1986 graduate of Lynnwood
High School.
Narie Young, daughter of Joseph and Karen Smalls of
Nampa, has received the Keith Gramann Memorial Scholarship. Young,
a senior at Boise State University majoring in social work, is a
1999 graduate of Minot High School in Minot, N.D.
