Volunteers Wanted For 12th Annual "Into The Streets" Event

Boise State University’s Volunteer Services Board will hold its 12th annual “Into the Streets” program on Saturday, Oct. 25. Participants should meet at 8 a.m. in the Student Union dining room.

Held on National Make a Difference Day, “Into the Streets” is a day of service, cooperation and change. Each year, Boise State students, faculty and staff show the Treasure Valley the positive effects they have on our community. Last year, more than 270 students participated, assisting 23 non-profit local agencies.

On the day of the event, volunteers will meet in the Student Union dining area for a light breakfast before choosing a service project from a list of more than 20. Tables will be set up for each project and a site leader will be available to explain the services that will be required from volunteers. After signing up for a project, there will be a short orientation. Then each group will divide up into carpools or Boise State vans. Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. participants will be actively involved in their chosen volunteer activity. After about four hours of service, volunteers will carpool back to the Student Union, where the Volunteer Services Board will host a small tailgate party for volunteers before the Boise State vs. San Jose football game.

“We are really excited to be able to incorporate more new agencies than ever on our project list this year,” said Hanne Ferber, VSB assistant director. Ferber went on to say that this year’s activities will involve physical efforts, creativity, playing with children and visiting with the elderly. “I am confident that every student will be able to participate in an area of his or her own interest.”
