New Product Development Workshop Explores 'Stage-Gate' Approach

A new product development workshop will be held on Friday, Oct. 17, to explore New Product Development: The Stage-Gate Approach. The workshop will introduce companies to this new approach that can guide them through product development and reduce unnecessary risks.

The workshop runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Morrison-Knudsen Plaza in Boise with lunch and refreshments. The fee is $250.

Product development consultant Steve Hatten, from TechHelp at Boise State University, said the workshop will answer the call from Idaho manufacturers for a more structured approach to new product development. Designed for chief executives and product development managers, it will focus on Stage-Gate, the leading new product development approach in the U.S.

Stage-Gate is a solution for smaller Idaho companies which lack the new product expertise or the capital and resources to help plan and develop their strategies and product processes. Without these resources they are often unable to compete effectively with large domestic and foreign corporations.

Workshop participants will be guided through a Stage-Gate version right-sized for small- to medium-sized companies. Understanding and applying professional planning and decision management processes can accelerate time-to-market, lower introduction costs, reduce the proportion of product failures and enhance the bottom line.

Companies that are interested in attending or want more information can contact Hatten by phone at 208-863-4258, or by e-mail at shatten@boisestate.edu.
