Speaker Addresses Sacred Peruvian Pilgrimages At Boise State Oct. 27

Katharine Seibold will speak at Boise State University at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, on “Cusco Pilgrimages to Qollur Riti and El Señor de Huanca.” Seibold is an associate professor of anthropology at Albertson College of Idaho. She will speak in the Student Union Hatch D Ballroom.

Seibold’s free lecture will address the annual round of pilgrimages made by the indigenous and urban peoples of the Cusco region of the Peruvian Andes, including Qollur Riti, El Señor de Huanca and La Vigen de Carmen. The Cusco region has long been viewed as sacred to indigenous populations, and people have been making pilgrimages to the region since before the Spanish explorers arrived in the area.

The event is part of the Anthropology Lecture Series and is presented by the anthropology department of the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs at Boise State. For more information, call 426-3023.
