The
Boise State University music department offers a November
jam-packed with 11 concerts ranging from original guitar pieces to
choral jazz to organ, flute and symphonic performances. Following

Center Recital Hall. 4 p.m. — Johann Helton
Classical guitarist Johann Helton presents
an evening of original compositions as part of the Faculty Artist
Series. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students
of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Nov. 2, Morrison Center Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m. — The Three
Trumpeters
The Three Trumpeters — Marcellus Brown, Dennis Keck and Brad
Peters — are accompanied by the Boise Contemporary Chamber
Players. The players are: Milda Keck, violin; Ali Swisher, violin;
Laura Berg, viola; Shea Cole, cello; Jess Stanley, bass. Admission
is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and
Boise State faculty and staff.
Nov. 3, Morrison Center Recital Hall, 7 p.m. — Idaho Flute
Society
The Idaho Flute Society performers include
Francesca Arnone, Karlin Coolidge, Jennifer Rhees, Cy Gilbert and
other professional players and teachers from the Treasure Valley.
Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all
ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Nov. 5, Meridian Middle School, 1507 W. 8th St., Meridian, 7:30
p.m. — Treasure Valley Concert Band
The Treasure Valley Concert Band, under the
direction of Boise State music professor Marcellus Brown, will
perform an evening of patriotic marches, songs, hymns and
overtures in honor of Veterans Day. The program will feature guest
conductor Paul Aitken and the music of John Williams, J.P. Sousa,
Randol Bass and two area composers: Peter Covino and Aaron Pike.
Joined by the Meridian Middle School band. Free.
Nov. 7, Morrison Center Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m. — Francesca
Arnone
Flutist Francesca Arnone presents a Faculty Artist Series
program incorporating music from various time periods and
countries. Composers include Locatelli, Schulhoff, Berio and
Duruflé. She will be accompanied by Boise State music chairman Jim
Cook on piano and harpsichord and music professor Linda Kline
Lamar on viola. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to
students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Nov. 10, Morrison Center Main Hall, 7:30 p.m. — Treasure Valley
Concert Band and the Boise Master Chorale
The Treasure Valley Concert Band, under the
direction of Boise State music professor Marcellus Brown, joined
by the Boise Master Chorale, under the direction of music
professor James Jirak, will perform an evening of patriotic
marches, songs, hymns and overtures in honor of Veterans Day. The

Nov. 15, Morrison Center Recital Hall, 4 p.m. — James Reid
James Reid, a music professor from the
University of Idaho, will present a guitar concert of music by
mostly Latin American composers. Reid has released five CDs over
the last decade and performed throughout the United States and
Canada. He recently commissioned a piece from Argentine guitarist
Maximo Pujol and will include that in this program. Admission is
$5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise
State faculty and staff.
Nov. 16, Morrison Center Main Hall, 4 p.m. — Symphonic Winds
The symphonic winds, directed by Marcellus Brown, will present
the regional premier of Shawn Okpebholo’s “Ritual Dances,”
composed for the United States Army Field Band. The program will
also feature the “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare,” by Richard
Strauss, Mark Camphouse’s “A Movement for Rosa” and Edward Elgar’s
“Enigma Variations.” Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free
to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Nov. 17, Hemingway Western Studies Center, 7:30 p.m. — John
Bostron
Organist John Bostron presents an evening of
works by North German composers. In addition to showcasing this
Boise organist who has won numerous honors and awards, the concert
will provide an opportunity to enjoy the unique sounds of one of
the most distinctive, cathedral quality organs in the Pacific
Northwest, a 1953 donation by Laura Moore Cunningham. Admission is
$5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise
State faculty and staff.
Nov. 20, Special Events Center, 7:30 p.m. — Jazz Bash
The annual Jazz Bash features three Boise
State jazz groups: the Big Band, under the direction of Brad
Peters; the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Jim Jirak;
and the Jazz Combo, under the direction of Ritchard Maynard.
Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all
ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Nov. 22, Morrison Center Main Hall, 7:30 p.m. — Boise State
Choral Festival
Boise State caps its 19th annual choral
festival with a concert featuring high school choirs from across
Oregon and Idaho. The groups will be joined by the Boise State
Meistersingers, under the direction of music professor Giselle
Wyers. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of
all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
