'Realism Now' Artist
Presents Lecture And Discussion

Coinciding with “Realism Now: Paintings & Drawings” on display at
Boise State University through Nov. 7, visiting and exhibiting
artist Wade Schuman will present a slide lecture at 1 p.m. on
Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Student Union Hatch A Ballroom. Schuman
will discuss his personal evolution as a figurative artist. The
event is free and open to the public.
Following the lecture an interactive discussion and walk-through
of the “Realism” exhibition will be led by Schuman, art department
chairman Richard Young and Dan Scott. A triptych (a three-paneled
painting) titled “Passages: Conflict, Rowing Man, and Resolutions”
and two additional paintings by Schuman are currently on view in
Gallery 2 of the Visual Arts Center, located in the Hemingway
Center. Free parking is available for the duration of the
exhibition in the Liberal Arts parking lot.
Schuman is a full time professor of art history, painting and
drawing, and is the painting curriculum coordinator at the New
York Academy of Art. He studied at the Rhode Island School of
Design and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and
traveled extensively in Europe on a Schiedt Travel Grant for Study
from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He has taught
painting and drawing privately for more than 12 years.
His paintings and drawings — exhibited in
New York, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Germany and France — have
received many awards of distinction, including three Visual Arts
Fellowship Grants for Painting from the Pennsylvania Council on
the Arts. He has also received an Award of Excellence from the
Philadelphia Museum of Art and was a National Endowment for the
Arts Mid-Atlantic Regional Fellowship Finalist. His work has been
reproduced or written about in many publications including the
New York Times, the New Yorker, Art in America,
The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Sciences magazine.
He is represented by the Forum Gallery in New York City and the
More Gallery in Philadelphia.
