Boise
State University will once again compete in College Bowl, “a
workout of the mind,” from 10 a.m.-4
p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom.
College Bowl is a game of academic knowledge and quick recall. Now
in its fifth year at Boise State, the College Bowl campus program
has been a popular tradition on America’s campuses for 25 years.
Boise State is among more than 300 institutions of higher
education playing College Bowl.
Like the popular radio and television series
of the 50s, 60s and 70s, the game features two teams of four
players each competing to score points to toss-up and bonus
questions. Teams will participate in three preliminary rounds,
with top scoring teams advancing to final rounds where they will
compete for prizes ranging from hockey tickets to gift
certificates, valuable coupons and more.
The questions cover every conceivable topic
from literature, science, history, geography, religion, social
sciences, multicultural topics and the arts to popular culture,
sports and current events.
The four highest individual scorers of the
campus tournament will be selected to sit on the All-Star team.
The All-Star team will advance to the regional championship
tournament in February 2004.
College Bowl is organized and administered with the cooperation
of the Association of College Union International (ACUI). Boise
State’s tournament is run by Student Union and Activities.
Students, faculty or staff may sign up for
the College Bowl competition by picking up a registration packet
at the Information Desk in the Student Union. A $5 non-refundable
registration fee is charged per team. To volunteer with the
planning of the tournament or for further information, contact
Autumn Haynes at 426-3049.
