Boise State Hosts Poetry
Reading

Poet
Clayton Eshleman will read from his work at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov.
17, in the Farnsworth room at the Boise State University Student
Union. This poetry reading is free and open to the public. It is
sponsored by the Boise State MFA Program in Creative Writing. For

Eshleman received his BA in Philosophy and MA in English
Literature from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and
received an honorary doctor of letters from SUNY-Oneonta in 2000.
He has lived and studied in Japan, Peru and France and taught at
many American schools. Eshleman has published poetry in over 500
magazines and newspapers and has given lectures and readings at
over 200 universities. In the spring of 1974 Eshleman’s family
discovered the Ice Age caves in southwestern France, sparking a
25-year project on what Eshleman calls “Upper Paleolithic
Imagination and the Construction of the Underworld.” His project
was published by Wesleyan University as Juniper Fuse in
2003. He received the National Book Award in 1979 for his Vallejo
translation and the Landon Translation Prize in 2002 for his
translation of Vallego’s Trice. He has also received a Guggenheim
Fellowship in poetry and several grants from the NEA and the NEH.
