Boise State Hosts Poetry Reading

Poet Clayton Eshleman will read from his work at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in the Farnsworth room at the Boise State University Student Union. This poetry reading is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Boise State MFA Program in Creative Writing. For more information, call 426-3862.

Eshleman received his BA in Philosophy and MA in English Literature from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and received an honorary doctor of letters from SUNY-Oneonta in 2000. He has lived and studied in Japan, Peru and France and taught at many American schools. Eshleman has published poetry in over 500 magazines and newspapers and has given lectures and readings at over 200 universities. In the spring of 1974 Eshleman’s family discovered the Ice Age caves in southwestern France, sparking a 25-year project on what Eshleman calls “Upper Paleolithic Imagination and the Construction of the Underworld.” His project was published by Wesleyan University as Juniper Fuse in 2003. He received the National Book Award in 1979 for his Vallejo translation and the Landon Translation Prize in 2002 for his translation of Vallego’s Trice. He has also received a Guggenheim Fellowship in poetry and several grants from the NEA and the NEH.
