Boise State University Students Produce "Psychic Radio Journey"

NPR News 91 Program Director Jim East has announced that in celebration of Halloween, a program produced by Boise State University students will be rebroadcast on the radio station. “Madame Zora’s Psychic Radio Journey” will be aired at 8 p.m. Friday. The program was originally broadcast on July 6.

The program was produced as part of the spring semester class “Studies in Media Production.” The class was a workshop in magazine format radio taught by East and communication professor Rick Moore.

Students who contributed to “Madame Zora’s Psychic Radio Journey” include A.J. Eaton, Alexandra McNish, Nick Whittier and Kelly Rice.

The class was divided into groups, with each group asked to produce a one-hour radio program on a subject of their choosing. Programs included one that focused on religion in America and another that focused on great road-trip stories. One program was called, “You Say ‘To-May-To,’ I Say ‘To-Mah-To,’” a look at things that are the same but different. Segments of this program included a look at wrestlers and ballet dancers who both struggle with their weight, a look at the differences of NBA vs. NCAA basketball, and a visit with a male-to-female transsexual.

East said that while each of the programs was very creative, “Madame Zora’s Psychic Radio Journey” excelled at using interviews, sound, music and editing to create a very enjoyable listening experience. The program takes the unique perspective of introducing listeners to a variety of people who claim to have psychic abilities, concluding with the possibility that everyone has some level of psychic powers.

East said he is impressed with, “the attention to detail and the entertainment value

in this program,” adding, “There are segments that make you wonder and segments that make you chuckle. These students should be very proud of this quality of work.”

NPR News 91 is heard at 91.5 FM, KBSX Boise; 88.5 FM, KBSY Burley; 91.3 FM, KBSJ Jackpot and 91.1 FM, KBSK McCall.
