Taekwondo Competition At
Boise State

The Boise State
University Taekwondo Club is hosting the BSU Open from 9 a.m.-6
p.m. on Nov. 15 in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. This event
will feature full-contact Olympic-style sparring. Black belt
sparring will begin at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $3 general, $2
students, and free for under 10.
Taekwondo was recognized as an official Olympic event at the
2002 games in Sydney, Australia. The sport was developed as a
martial art more than 2,000 years ago in Korea. Today it is a
free-fighting combat sport using bare hands and feet to repel an
opponent. Participants earn a series of belts based on their
mastery of specific skills: white, yellow, green, blue, red and
finally, black. More than 20 million people in at least 142
countries participate in Taekwondo.
The Boise State club is a member of the
United States Taekwondo Union (USTU), which is the exclusive
Taekwondo organization recognized by the United States Olympic
Committee. The club’s chief instructor, coach and adviser is
Bob Drozda, licensed as a master instructor by the USTU. For
more information, contact Drozda at 344-9355.
