Just
as Boise State University students reach the halfway point in the
semester, Student Programs Board comes forward with a week’s worth
of fun activities to bring students out of the mid-semester blues.
The following is a list of activities for Fall Funk.
Tuesday, Nov. 18: Ambassadors of Comedy, 7
p.m., Special Events Center
This event will feature stand-up comedy
routines by four of America's funniest foreign comedians talking
about life in America from a foreigner's perspective. Admission is
free to Boise State students, faculty and staff. General admission
is $5 through Select-a-Seat. Ambassadors of Comedy is sponsored by
the Student Programs Board, the Cultural Center, the International
Programs Office and the International Student Association.
Wednesday, Nov. 19: REACH Health Fair, 10
a.m.-3 p.m., Jordan Ballroom
Free health screenings and information on health alternatives
will be available. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend,
as there will be valuable educational booths for all ages. The
Health Fair is sponsored by REACH (Recreation, Education, and
Awareness Through Community Health), a group of students in the
Boise State department of kinesiology’s health promotions program,
and Student Programs Board. Admission to the REACH Health Fair is

Thursday and Friday, Nov. 20-21: Homeland
Security Conference, 6-9 p.m., Jordan Ballroom
This two-day conference strives to provide
answers in the midst of so many unanswered questions concerning
the Department of Homeland Security. The event will feature
speakers covering both sides of the Homeland Security debate.
Conference tickets are $5 general, $10 at the door and free for
Boise State students. This conference is sponsored by Student
Programs Board; call 426-1223 for more information.
Speakers for Thursday’s portion of the conference include Boise
Police Chief Don Pierce discussing the protocol, procedures, and
vision of the Boise Police Department; Congressman C.L. (Butch)
Otter (R – Idaho), speaking as a representative of the House; and
Nadine Strossen, president of the National American Civil
Liberties Union.
Speakers for Friday’s portion of the conference include Boise
Fire Department Battalion Chief Bruce Rankin, addressing incident
first response; and Danny Coulson, founder of the Federal Bureau
of Investigation’s Counter Terrorism Force and Hostage Rescue,
speaking on the threats facing Americans.
Friday, Nov. 21: “Pirates of the Caribbean,” midnight, Special
Events Center
(PG-13; action; Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom; 2003). Captain Jack
Sparrow rescues Elizabeth Swann, the governor’s daughter,
beginning an adventure that combines Elizabeth’s mysterious
medallion and a legendary pirate ship, the Black Pearl. The
Pearl's captain wants her medallion necklace and kidnaps her in an
attempt to end a curse placed upon him and his crew.
Admission is $1 for students, faculty and
staff and $1.50 general. Popcorn and soda will be available for an
