National Association of Schools of Art and
Design evaluators on campus Nov. 17-19 The Boise
State University department of art has applied for membership in
the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the
national accrediting agency for art and design disciplines.
NASAD, founded in 1944, is an organization of schools,
colleges, and universities that offer art and design studies. It
has approximately 240 accredited institutional members. NASAD
establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate
degrees in art and other art credentials.
The association's main role is that of a specialized,
professional accrediting agency. Accreditation is a
non-governmental system of academic review and the process whereby
an association or agency recognizes an institution as having met
certain qualifications or standards.
The art department has completed and submitted to NASAD a
written review, or self-study, of all of its procedures and
programs. NASAD evaluators will be on campus Nov. 17-19 to perform
a comprehensive on-site review of the department. During their
visit the NASAD evaluators will assess Boise States art programs
by studying student artwork on display in the departments
gallery, classrooms and hallways. The NASAD Commission on
Accreditation will review the departments application for
accreditation dur ing the Spring 2004 semester.
