The
Log Cabin Literary Center and Idaho Commission on the Arts invites
children up to the age of 18 to enter a free card tournament from
10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Log Cabin Literary Center.
The round robin event will center on the Idaho Authors card game
recently released by the Idaho Center for the Book, an affiliate
of the Library of Congress housed at Boise State University.
Children must be old enough to read and follow
simple rules of play for a game played much like “Go Fish.”
Parents may accompany children and are invited to join in the
tournament if desired.
Idaho Authors features 11 writers and their
books and is based on the traditional Authors card game popular in
the last century. Tournament winners will receive copies of
featured authors’ children’s books, such as “Caddie Woodlawn,” by
Carol Ryrie Brink and “Canyon Boy,” by Grace Jordan.
The purpose of the tournament, according to
Idaho Commission on the Arts literary director Cort Conley, is to
familiarize Idaho students with the state’s literary history,
while also introducing them to a game that’s fun for the whole
family.
