Fair, Portland Taiko Ensemble
| The
Boise State University Student Union will take on an international
flavor Dec. 6 when the Cultural Center hosts the Japanese Cultural
Fair. The daylong event will be highlighted by two performances of
the Portland Taiko Ensemble, at 2 and 8 p.m. in the Special Events
Center (tickets to the 8 p.m. show are sold out, but matinee
tickets will be available beginning Nov. 19).
The fair is free; tickets to the Portland Taiko
Ensemble are $10 general and $5 for seniors, students 17 and
under, and Boise State students, faculty, staff and alumni through
Select-a-Seat. This event is part of the Student Union Classic
Performances Series.
The fair, co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan
Portland, Ore., Japan Society of Idaho and the Boise State Japan
Club, commemorates 150 years of Japan-U.S. relations. It will
include historical displays, origami and calligraphy
demonstrations and the chance to be photographed wearing a kimono.
The fair will kick off at 8:30 a.m. in the
Student Union Jordan Ballroom with an opening ceremony, followed
by visual presentations, speakers, a koto concert by Selha Miyabi
Kai, an introduction to flower arranging and the traditional tea
ceremony, martial arts demonstrations, door prizes and more.
