Boise State December Music Concerts Ring In The Holidays

The Boise State University music department offers a holiday montage of musical concerts ranging from traditional choir favorites to the popular TubaChristmas. Following is the schedule. For more information on any of these concerts, call 426-3980.

Dec. 2, Morrison Center Room B-125. 7:30 p.m. — Percussion Ensemble

This concert features a keyboard arrangement by Johann Strauss; a piece including body percussion titled “Syncopate my Afuche;” a pseudo-taiko piece titled “Hoo Daiko;” and a guest appearance from the Boise Philharmonic’s Verde Percussion Group. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

Dec. 5, Morrison Center Recital Hall. 8 p.m. — St. Petersburg Quartet

The Boise Chamber Music Series presents this string quartet from Russia. Celebrating the 300th anniversary of their hometown, the St. Petersburg Quartet plays a passionate program of Prokofiev, Glazunov and Zurab Nadarejshvili. Admission is $20 general, $15 for students and seniors. The group will present a free master class at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 6 in the Morrison Center Recital Hall.

Dec. 6, 3:30 p.m. at The Grove; 4:30 p.m. at the Capitol Rotunda — Boise TubaChristmas

The 12th annual Boise TubaChristmas features traditional carols arranged by Alec Wilder for tuba, euphonium, sousaphone and more. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

Dec. 7, Morrison Center Main Hall, 7:30 p.m. — Family Holiday Concert

Celebrate holiday favorites at the annual Boise State Family Holiday Concert, featuring the Boise State choirs, orchestras, Chamber Singers, Faculty Brass Quintet, Trombone Choir, Flute Choir and Tuba Ensemble. Admission is $6 general, $4 seniors and $1 for students through Select-a-Seat.

Dec. 8, Hemingway Center. 7 p.m. — Idaho Flute Society Concert

The Boise State Flute Choir will be joined by the Idaho Flute Ensemble’s Flute Flight and Silverwinds groups. Selections include new works and holiday-themed pieces. Admission is free.

Dec. 9, Cathedral of the Rockies, 11th and Hays. 7:30 p.m. — Boise State Choral Concert

Ring in the holiday season with a delightful mix of traditional and modern Christmas and Hanukkah selections, including Bach’s famous “Wachet Auf.” Audience members can also choose from an assortment of holiday gift baskets up for grabs at the annual Meistersingers silent auction during intermission in the lobby. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

Dec. 11, Special Events Center. 7:30 p.m. — Boise State Concert Band

“Something Old and Something New” is the theme of this concert, featuring the All-Campus Concert Band. Selections include “Old Man and the Mountain,” “Malaguena,” “Washington Grey’s March” and a John Williams medley. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
