Two
Boise State University students have each received $2,500 to study
abroad in spring semester 2004 at Waseda University in Tokyo,
Japan. The awards were highly competitive and only 33 scholarships
were awarded nationwide.Stephanie
Hiller (sophomore) and Yasmine Romero (junior), both
English-linguistics majors, have received the Bridging
Scholarship, sponsored by the Association of Teachers of Japanese.
This scholarship is designed to assist students with the costs of
studying in Japan.
“One of the biggest misconceptions about
study abroad is that there is no funding available and that it is
extremely expensive to study abroad,” said Corrine Henke,
coordinator for the Study Abroad and National Student Exchange
programs at Boise State. “These students help dispel that myth.”
Boise State offers a wide variety of choices
for students to study abroad. Students remain enrolled at Boise
State, receive Boise State credit for courses taken abroad (with
pre-departure planning and course approvals), and can apply their
financial aid awards to the cost of their program. Programs are
designed to meet a broad range of academic majors, interests and
levels of affordability. Scholarship funding is available. Call
