St. Petersburg Quartet
Celebrates Russian Music In Boise

The
Boise Chamber Music Society and the Boise State department of
music present the St. Petersburg String Quartet in the second
concert of the Boise Chamber Music Series at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec.
5, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. The quartet will celebrate
the 300th anniversary of their hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia,
with a passionate program of Prokofiev and Glazunov, as well as a
haunting new work by Georgian composer Zurab Nadarejshvili.
Tickets are $20 general and $15 for students and seniors. “A
Little Morning Music,” a free master class with student string
quartets, will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, also in
the Morrison Center Recital Hall.
Early in its career, the quartet blazed at rail through
international chamber music competitions, winning First Prize at
the All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition, the Silver Medal
and a Special Prize at Vittorio Gui International Competition for
Chamber Ensembles in Florence, Italy, and First Prize and the
“Grand Prix Musica Viva” at the International Competition for
Chamber Ensembles in Melbourne, Australia.
The St. Petersburg String Quartet will soon release the
complete works of Tchaikovsky for string quartet on the Dorian
label. Already available are the complete Shostakovich cycle on
Hyperion and Delos’ recordings of Prokofiev’s two quartets,
Nadarejshvili’s String Quartet No. 1 and Glazunov’s Quartet No. 5.
