Boise State Grad
Recognized For Reporting On City Hall Shake-Up

| Jon
Hanian, who in 2001 graduated from Boise State University with a
master’s degree in applied history, was part of a news team
recently recognized for excellence in broadcast journalism. The
group from KBCI-Channel 2 in Boise will receive the DuPont Award
from the Columbia University School of Journalism for “watchdog
reporting” on financial corruption in the Boise mayor’s office.
Thirteen silver batons will be presented at a ceremony held Jan.
21, 2004, at Columbia University. There were nearly 600
submissions from television and radio stations across the nation.
The team uncovered signs of financial corruption in City Hall that
eventually led to the resignation and indictment of the Boise
mayor and his chief of staff. Columbia officials called the
reports “superb examples of the role of the press as watchdog on
local government.” Hanian’s teammates included Michael Keckler,
Clyn Richards, Hank Nystrom, Chris Ceresa and Jeff Ray.
