Usher in the Year of the Monkey with an authentic Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Boise State University Student Union Jordan Ballroom. The event includes a buffet dinner featuring traditional Vietnamese cuisine, followed by song and dance performances by members of the Boise State Vietnamese Student Association.

Admission is $12 general, $7 for Boise State students and free for children ages 5 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the Student Union Info Desk or at the Orient Market on the corner of Emerald and Orchard streets. For more information, call Tracie at 860-9642 or the Boise State Cultural Center at 426-4259.

Tet Nguyen Dan (the Lunar New Year) is the most important holiday in Vietnam, commemorating the return of spring with a grand celebration that is like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year all rolled into one. Vietnamese who live outside the country usually celebrate with the same traditions, food and customs they grew up with.
