Classical Top 200 To Air On Boise State Radio

KBSU FM will carry Kimberlea Daggy’s  Classical Top 200 beginning Jan. 5 and continuing through most of 2004. In this one-hour show airing daily at noon, Daggy offers a fresh take on 200 of the greatest classical masterpieces, from beloved favorites to decisive musical turning points and spanning all musical eras and genres. With each piece she plays, she shares insights into what makes it great and some historical context. Her music selections and commentary have one goal: an understanding of musical art through appreciation of its finest examples — music created for eternity.

Classical Top 200 is the classical music host’s response to her listeners’ requests for a better understanding of the full range of classical masterpieces. Through recent decades and even recent centuries, there has been no limit to admirable written guides to the great symphonies and operas. These styles were long the steady but limited diet of concert-goers, and dozens of publications claimed to be the “Essential Guide” to this limited repertoire. The medium of classical radio has brought the world of music to new legions of listeners. This music includes not only symphonies and operas but also choral works, chamber music, songs, sonatas and suites.

Daggy grew up in a musical family and became a performer at an early age. She sees music as a primary human need, but one still mysterious to most of us. “Listening to great music is an incomparable experience without parallel among the arts,” she said. “The things we see in the physical world are reflected, even abstractly, in the visual arts. Our everyday movements are idealized in dance. Literature is an outgrowth of language. But very little in the natural world prepares us for the raw, emotional power of music.”

KBSU can be heard on 90.3 FM Boise, 90.9 FM Cascade, 106.3 FM Stanley, and 91.1 FM Lower Stanley; KBSM can be heard on 91.7 FM McCall; KBSW can be heard on 91.7 FM Twin Falls, 93.5 FM Ketchum, 89.3 FM Bellevue,  89.7 FM Challis, and 91.9 FM Salmon.
