DANCE SYNOPSIS:

bullet“Cabala” is a humorous piece for four men performed to music by Astor Piazolla. The piece, featuring dancers in prison costumes, first premiered during IDT’s first season, 1989-90.
bullet“Aria,” von Reither’s newest piece of choreography, is a visually stunning modern dance connecting two beautiful performing art forms — opera and contemporary movement. The 15-minute dance is set to music from the operas “Madame Butterfly,” Carmen” and “Lucia Di Lammermoor,” with dance movements featuring the power and beauty of women.

bullet“Grit” is inspired by the exciting, contemporary music of Faith No More and Metallica as played by Apocalyptica on four cellos. The three movements of this dance reflect the vitality and intensity of our lives in today’s society with movement drawn from jazz, modern, ballet and martial arts. The dance explodes with energy and builds to a powerful climax of camaraderie and conviction. The centerpiece of the work is a passionate duet between a man and a woman expressing pure love and total commitment.

bullet“Measures of Time” features soloists and small ensembles performing high energy, challenging choreography. The dance is a tribute to Rod Rogers, a percussionist, dancer and friend of choreographer Carl Rowe, who died in New York City this past year.

bullet“Go Getters” is set to music composed by Michael Torke, an American composer for the Olympics. This dance, about the ambitious, the gung-ho and the coffee set, includes enough manic energy and spirited dancing to stoke the fires of any lane changer.

bullet“Sphere of Influence” is an evocative, moody, rhythmic piece filled with contrasts — powerful and delicate, extremely physical and subtle, intense yet calm. The dance is a visual feast of solos, duets, trios and groups exploring different personalities, energies and human experiences. Brothers, sisters, anger, fear, sex, manipulation, compassion, exploration, joy and introspection are all touched on. With gorgeous music by Thomas Newman, “Sphere of Influence” will leave you breathless.

bullet“Rorschach” is a dance inkblot — it means something, but only you know for sure what that is. This constantly changing piece makes strong demands on the dancers, pushing them to their limits. Music is by the innovative Dutch group Flairck and composer Eric Wisser.
