Public Invited To View Top-Notch Research At Boise State Day At The Legislature

Boise State Day at the Legislature, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, on the fourth floor rotunda of the State Capitol, will highlight cutting-edge and, in some cases, nationally recognized research by the university’s undergraduate and graduate students and professors. President Bob Kustra and the university vice-presidents and deans will attend from 10-11 a.m. Refreshments will be served.

Members of the public are invited to visit the displays and talk with students and professors from all eight colleges at Boise State.

Many of the research projects, across a wide range of disciplines, explore issues pertinent to Idaho’s people, environment and economy. Among the 24 projects on display will be research on: “No Child Left Behind” policies; “Improving Cancer Care Through Intelligent Drug Design;” “Formation of Acid Rain Policy in the U.S. and Canada;” and “Environmental Sensors” (to detect environmental contaminants).

A display on “The Trial of the Century” by history professor Todd Shallat and student Amber Beierle will take Idahoans back to the turbulent days of 1907 when the national media descended upon Boise. Their focus was the sensational trial of labor boss Big Bill Hawyood who stood accused of ordering the assassination of former Idaho Governor Frank Steunenberg.

Also at Boise State Day at the Legislature, students from the College of Health Sciences will offer health checks to the legislators to help them be in tip-top shape for the legislative work ahead.
