Boise State Music
Department Offers Month Of Musical Performances
A
slate of concerts ranging from vocal jazz to a string quartet will
highlight the month of February at Boise State University.
Following is the schedule. For more information on any of these
concerts, call 426-3980.
Saturday, Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m., Morrison Center Main Hall
All-star High School Honor Band
This concert culminates the two-day honor band clinic. The honor
band, led by guest conductor John Whitwell of Michigan State
University, will be joined by tuba soloist and Boise State music
professor Michael Fischer and the University Symphonic Winds in
the premiere of Barbara York�s �Directions.� Admission is $5
general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise
State faculty and staff.
Wednesday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m., Morrison Center Recital Hall
Concerto Aria Competition
Watch talented Boise State vocal and instrumental music
students vie for a chance to perform at the Concerto Aria concert
in May. Admission is free.
Friday, Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m., Hemingway Center
Meistersingers
The Boise State Meistersingers, under the direction of Boise
State music professor Giselle Wyers, present �Back to Baroque,�
with James Cook on harpsichord and the Chamber Ensemble performing
Bach�s �Wachet Auf.� The Boise State Chamber Singers will also
perform. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students
of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Wednesday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 950 W.
State St.
Treasure Valley Concert Band
Organist Shawn Rogers joins the Treasure Valley Concert Band,
under the direction of Boise State music professor Marcellus
Brown, for a concert that includes the finale from Saint-Saene�s
organ symphony as well as Sousa�s �Riders of the Flag.� Admission
is free.
Thursday, Feb. 19., 7:30 p.m., Student Union Jordan Ballroom
Just4Kicks
The a capella jazz group Just4Kicks and the Boise State Vocal
Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Boise State music professor
Jim Jirak, combine to kick off the 13th annual vocal jazz festival
at Boise State. Admission is $3 at the door.
Friday, Feb. 20, 8 p.m., Morrison Center Recital Hall
Brentano Quartet
This hot young New York City string quartet plays a program of
music that includes Beethoven�s Opus 18 #6, Chou Wen-chung�s
Quartet #2 and Mendelssohn�s Opus 80. Presented by Boise Chamber
Music Society. Admission is $15-$20 at the door. A free �Afternoon
Music� program will be held earlier that day at 4 p.m., also in
the Morrison Center Recital Hall.
Sunday, Feb. 22, 4 p.m., Morrison Center Recital Hall
Faculty Brass Quintet
The Faculty Brass Quintet consists of Marcellus Brown and Brad
Peters on trumpet, David Mathie on trombone, Michael Fischer on
tuba and David Saunders on horn. The concert is part of the
Faculty Artist Series. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and
free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
Sunday, Feb. 29, 4 p.m., Morrison Center Recital Hall
Linda Kline Lamar
Violist Linda Kline Lamar and pianist James Cook, both Boise
State music professors, will perform works by Clarke, Bridge,
Vieuxtemps, Hindemith and Khachaturian as part of this Faculty
Artist Series. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to
students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
