The Boise State University Student Recreation Center (The REC) will offer a backcountry avalanche safety seminar at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in The REC classroom. The course, open to the general public, spans the entire weekend and will entail one day of class instruction and two all-day field exercises near Idaho City. Registration for the class is $30 and closes at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

The seminar will provide the basic knowledge and judgment skills necessary for winter
backcountry travel and skiing.  Instructional emphasis will be placed on: snow pack stability, route selection, group leadership, hazard assessment and rescue and evacuation procedures.  All technical equipment will be provided by the Outdoor Center.
