Health, Wellness Programs Available to Boise State Community


A full slate of health and wellness programs are offered to Boise State students, faculty and staff through Health, Wellness and Counseling Services. For more information, visit http://www.boisestate.edu/healthservices/. Upcoming events include:
  
Tobacco Cessation Classes � Funded by the Tobacco Settlement, the state of Idaho provides these classes free to Boise State students, faculty and staff. Classes meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Student Union Brink Room on Feb. 11, 18 and 25, and March 3 and 10.  Gail Wester is the instructor. Call 939-1731 or e-mail grwester74@hotmail.com to register.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings � This organization is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve common issues and assist others in overcoming alcoholism. Free meetings are from 7-8 or 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday, except for major holidays and university closures, in the Student Union (check the marquee for room locations). No registration required.
HIV Testing � This needle-free testing takes about 20 minutes; results are available in about two weeks. To register for the Feb. 9 testing, call Mariah Malcolm at 367-7038.

�The Skinny on Fad Diets � Separating Fact From Fantasy,�
led by registered dietician Hilary Horton-Brown. Does the latest fad diet sound too good to be true? Then unfortunately, it probably is. Learn how to assess the quality of any diet so that you never fall prey to misinformation or marketing ploys. 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the REC. Free and open to all Boise State students, faculty and staff. Check in at the customer service desk if you are not a REC member.

�Real Ways/Right Ways � A Guide to Weight Management,� by Hilary Horton-Brown and REC fitness director Lisa Stuppy. This incredible three-part series is designed by qualified Boise State health professionals to help you create a lifestyle that will allow you to lose weight and keep it off. 7-8:30 p.m. March 2 in the Student Union Gipson Room, March 9 in the Student Union Hatch C Ballroom and March 16 in the REC. A $20 deposit is required for  the series. Upon completion of all three classes, the money will be refunded. To register, call Rhiannon at Ext. 5685.

First Aid/CPR Training. Several dates are available for faculty and staff to receive First Aid/CPR training. To register, contact Rhiannon at Ext. 5685.
