Ibsen's 'Hedda Gabler' Opens At Boise State March 10

The Boise State University theatre arts department will present Henrik Ibsen’s “Hedda Gabler” March 10-14 and 17-21 in Stage II of the Morrison Center. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 10-13 and 17-20; and at 2 p.m. March 14 and 21. Tickets are $9 general, $7 for students, seniors and Boise State alumni and free to Boise State students, faculty and staff through Select-a-Seat. Call 426-3957 for more information. Parents should note that the play contains adult content.

One of Ibsen’s most frequently revived plays, “Hedda Gabler” was first produced in Germany in 1890. With its exploration of the consequences of choice, and emotional dependence, the play has influenced playwrights from George Bernard Shaw (“Candida”) to Edward Albee (“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”).

The play centers on Hedda, who has trapped herself in an unworkable marriage, and finds herself isolated and unable to make her desires known or understood. The play moves in an irrevocable path towards the destruction of those around her as she seeks to find resolution to her life.

“Hedda Gabler” is directed by Carole Whiteleather. The cast includes Liberty Leeds as Hedda Tesman, Josh Belville as George Tesman, Patricia Kyle as Julia Tesman, Douglas Hoggatt as Judge Brack, Naomi Erickson as Thea Elvsted, Eric Olson as Eilert Lovborg and Terry Allen as Berta.
