Boise State University is prepared to usher Women’s History Month
in with a variety of exhibitions, lectures and activities. A full
slate of events in March celebrates the triumphs and
accomplishments of ordinary women doing extraordinary things. The
festivities open with the 3rd annual Women Making History
reception at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, in the Jordan Ballroom, by
invitation only.The reception celebrates the lives of 25 women
nominated as “women making history in Idaho.” The Boise State
Women’s Center will share their stories in a special advertising
supplement inserted into the Feb. 26 edition of the Idaho
Statesman.
All other events are free and open to the public unless

Events include:
March 1: “Financial Tips for Women: Basic Investment and
Budgeting.” Noon-1 p.m., Student Union Lookout Room. Presented by
Jennifer Braun-Blanco.
March 1-31: “The Extraordinary Life of Harriet Tubman.” As
a part of the powerful exhibit, The Myth of Race, the Black
History Museum will present a documentary and exhibit of the life
of Harriet Tubman. 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday. Black

March 2: “Women in Idaho and the West” lecture presented by
Sandra Schackel, history professor, with an historical
re-enactment by performance artist Shannon Steven Commers. 7-8:30

March 3: “Celebrate Women and Spirituality: An exploration
of the history, repression and resurgence of the women’s
spirituality movement,” three-film series. 1-4:30 p.m., Student
Union Forum Room.
March 5: Women’s Center National Juried Exhibition opening
reception with musical guest Juliet Tietjen on the harp. 5:30-7:30
p.m., Student Union Gallery.
March 6: International Women’s Day Celebration, presented
by The Agency for New Americans. 2-5 p.m., Café de Paris. $15.

March 9: “Seniorita Extraviada,” film and discussion.
6:30-8:30 p.m., Student Union Barnwell Room. Join Maria Alicia
Garza, Idaho Professor of the Year, for a screening and discussion
of Lourdes Portillo’s stunning documentary.
March 10-13: “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide
When the Rainbow is Enuf,” choreopoem by Ntozake Shange and
directed by Rhoma Spencer. A tale of black women’s struggles and
triumphs, “For Colored Girls. . .” is an international success,
never-before performed in Idaho.

March 16: “Voices in Exile: Stories of Lesbian Mormons,” a
film documentary and panel discussion exploring the issues Mormon
women face when they recognize, and then act on, their romantic
feelings for other women. 6:30 p.m., Student Union Barnwell Room.

March 18: “Women in World War II: Creating a more complete
picture,” brown bag lecture. The presentation is based on findings
by the State Historical Society’s interview and study of women in
the military and on the home front during WW II. 12:15-1:15 p.m.,
