Two
members of the Boise State University music faculty have been
honored by the American Choral Directors Association. Jim Jirak
and Giselle Wyers have earned performance honors at the Northwest
Division ACDA Conference in Boise this week. Each of them
submitted recordings of their work as choral directors for the
past three years and both were chosen to have their choirs perform
for the regional conference.Every
other year the six-state Northwest Division of ACDA gathers for
workshops, interest sessions and performances of outstanding
choirs; this year the convention is being held at Boise State.
Attendees include ACDA members from Idaho, Washington, Oregon,
Montana, Wyoming and Alaska.
The Boise State Meistersingers, directed by Wyers, performed in
the Special Events Center Thursday. The Meistersingers have been
part of university life since 1932. The Boise Master Chorale,
under the direction of Jirak, will close the ACDA conference with
a performance in the Morrison Center. The Chorale, which meets
every Monday night on the Boise State campus, will present Antonin
Dvorak’s “Stabat Mater” with full orchestra at 8 p.m. Saturday,
March 6. Tickets are $15 at Select-a-Seat.
Wyers is an assistant professor of choral
music and has been with Boise State since 2000. Jirak is an
associate professor of choral music education and came to Boise
State in 1994.
