Imaginative Creations Part of 'Booker's Dozen' Traveling Exhibit

“Booker’s Dozen 2004,” a traveling exhibition of eccentric and artists’ books designed and produced by Idahoans, will be displayed at the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St., through March 27. The collection is presented by the Idaho Center for the Book at Boise State University and may be viewed on the Web at www.lili.org/icb. This year’s exhibit includes 14 handmade books that were selected by Idaho artists, bookmakers, gallery owners, writers and publishers. The creations stretch the boundaries of what we imagine a book to be, created on a makeup compact, a dollar bill, a fly-swatter, a paper lunch sack and more. External and internal views of the books, the itinerary of exhibit hosts, listings of the books, book makers, jurors and the ICB statewide advisory board members are available in a PowerPoint presentation on the Web site, which was designed by Brian Warthen of Academic Technologies at Boise State and Michael Samuelson of the Idaho State Library. The Idaho Center for the Book was established at Boise State in 1993 and is affiliated with the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The ICB works to encourage and promote an interest in reading, writing, making, disseminating and collecting books.
