Because of a daylong power outage on
the Boise State campus on Saturday, March 27, access to all campus
university buildings will be denied that day.
According
to Larry Blake, Boise State’s director of facilities
administration, the planned outage will be required on the
university’s main electrical loop to meet the expanding need for
electrical power on the campus. During the outage, Idaho Power
will increase the power delivered to the campus by an additional
10 megawatts.
To make the
final connections and minimize disruption to the campus on the
27th, the Saturday during spring break, the outage will be from 7
a.m.-7 p.m.
Due to safety concerns, access to all
campus buildings north of University Drive, the College of
Engineering complex and the Student Recreation Center will be
prohibited all day on March 27. Other buildings south of
University Drive and buildings west of Capitol Boulevard will be
unaffected by the outage.
According
to Blake, the decision to deny access to campus buildings is a
precautionary measure necessitated by the lack of power to fire
alarm, fire detection and fire suppression systems during the
outage.
Additional security personnel will be
on duty throughout the power outage; those officers have been
authorized by the university to remove all unauthorized
individuals from the affected campus buildings throughout the
entire day on March 27.
