'When I Lived In Modern Times' Final Literature For Lunch Selection

Linda Grant’s “When I Lived in Modern Times” is the topic of the final Literature for Lunch discussion for spring 2004. Supported by the Boise State University English department, Literature for Lunch has grown in popularity and attendance. To make room for growing enthusiasts, discussion will be from 12:10-1 p.m., Friday, April 30, in the Boise Public Library auditorium, 725 S. Capitol.

Winner of The Orange Prize for Fiction, “When I Lived in Modern Times” details the journey of Evelyn, a 20-year old hairdresser from World War II London to Palestine. The work focuses on the metamorphosis and surprising revelations surrounding the heroine’s displacement and struggle for identity.

Grant is the author of several works, including “The Cast Iron Shore” (1996), winner of the David Higham Prize for Fiction, “Remind Me Who I am Again” (1998) and“Still Here” (2002), winner of the MIND Book of the Year/Allen Lane Award. She currently lives in north London.
